FeaturesVoice typing in any app

Talk, and the words appear right at your cursor

Voice typing that works everywhere you type. Reply in a chat, write a commit message, jot a note: tap Right ⌘, say it, tap again, and MetaWhisp types it into the app you were in. No window to switch to, no copying and pasting.

  • No switchingstay where you are

One habit for every app

The same key and the same result, wherever the cursor is.

  • Mail and chat. Replies come out as you would say them, with punctuation.
  • Code and Terminal. Comments, commit messages and prompts for AI tools, typed into the editor or shell you have open.
  • Notes and documents. Long thoughts in one go: toggle mode keeps recording until you tap again.
  • Full screen. Works in full-screen apps too, and MetaWhisp never needs to be in front.

How the text gets to your cursor

Three quick steps after you stop talking.

  1. On the clipboard, checked

The transcription is placed on the clipboard, and MetaWhisp reads it back to make sure it landed before going on.

  2. Back to your app

It returns to the app you were using when you started, even if you clicked elsewhere in the meantime.

  3. ⌘V, pressed for you

A paste keystroke puts the words at your cursor. This needs the macOS Accessibility permission; without it the text waits on the clipboard.

Voice typing with MetaWhisp takes one key: tap Right Command, speak, and tap it again. MetaWhisp turns the speech into text with Whisper, locally on the Free plan, and then places the text on the clipboard, checks that it is there, switches back to the app you were using when you started, and presses ⌘V for you. That is why it works in any app that accepts a paste, from mail and chat to code editors and Terminal. The paste needs the macOS Accessibility permission; without it the text still arrives on the clipboard for you to paste. The dictation stays on the clipboard afterwards, replacing what you had copied, and every dictation is also saved in Library → History. If you prefer to paste yourself, switch off Auto-paste in Settings.

Nothing odd lands in your document

It pastes only what it is confident about, and it learns from your fixes.

Questions

Which apps does it type into?

Any app where you can paste: email, messengers, notes and documents, browsers, code editors, Terminal, in full-screen too. MetaWhisp itself never needs to be in front.

Why does it ask for the Accessibility permission?

To press ⌘V for you in the app you were using, and to hear Right ⌘ while another app is in front. Without it, your text still arrives: it waits on the clipboard and you paste it yourself.

What happens to my clipboard?

Your dictation is placed on it, which is how the paste works, and it stays there, so you can paste it again. Whatever you had copied before is replaced.

What if I click somewhere else while it transcribes?

MetaWhisp returns to the app you were using when you started and pastes there.

Can I turn auto-paste off?

Yes: switch off Auto-paste in Settings. Nothing is pasted or copied then, and every dictation still waits for you in Library → History.

What if it misheard me?

When a transcription looks unreliable, MetaWhisp puts it on the clipboard instead of pasting it, so nothing strange lands in your document. Every dictation is also kept in History, and when you correct a word the same way twice, it learns the fix.
