Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of MetaWhisp, a voice-to-text application for macOS, and its website. By downloading or using MetaWhisp, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The app and your license

MetaWhisp grants you a personal, non-exclusive license to install and use the app on your Mac. Core on-device transcription is free, with no account required. MetaWhisp's source is published under its open-source license at github.com/metawhisp; that license governs the source code, while these terms govern your use of the distributed app and this website.

Optional paid features

Some optional features (such as cloud transcription models and AI text post-processing) are paid and clearly labeled in the app. If you purchase them, billing is handled by our payment processor; you can cancel at any time, and access continues through the end of your current billing period. Optional cloud features send data to third-party providers as described in our Privacy Policy — review it before enabling them for sensitive data.

Acceptable use

You agree to use MetaWhisp lawfully and to not use it to infringe others' rights, to record or transcribe people without any consent the law requires, or to attempt to disrupt the service. You are responsible for the content you transcribe and for complying with the laws and regulations that apply to you.

Your data

In the default on-device mode, your audio is processed locally and is not sent to us. How each mode handles data — including optional cloud features and automatic update checks — is described in detail in the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms.

No warranty

MetaWhisp is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Speech recognition is not perfect; transcripts may contain errors, and you should review output before relying on it, especially for professional, legal, medical, or other consequential use. MetaWhisp does not by itself establish compliance with any regulatory framework — meeting your own legal or compliance obligations remains your responsibility.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MetaWhisp and its founder are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app or website. For paid features, total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
