Tap Right ⌥, say it in your own words, tap again. MetaWhisp writes it down and pastes it translated into the language you chose, right where you are typing. Already have the text? Select it and hold Right ⌥, and the selection turns into its translation.
Your voice, or text you already have. Same key.
You say: “Can we move the call to Thursday?”
Tap Right ⌥ and talk as you normally would. When you tap again, the whole thought is translated at once and pasted.
A message you received, a paragraph you wrote: select it and keep Right ⌥ down for a second and a half. The text changes into your target language where it stands.
To translate speech on a Mac with MetaWhisp, tap the Right Option key, speak, and tap it again. MetaWhisp turns your voice into text with OpenAI’s Whisper model, on your Mac on the Free plan, then translates the finished text into the language you picked in Settings and pastes it at your cursor, in any app where paste works. Translation starts after you stop, so it sees whole sentences. To translate text that is already on screen, select it and hold Right Option for a second and a half: MetaWhisp copies the selection, translates it and pastes the result in its place. Translation needs an AI model, and there are three to choose from: a free local model, a key of your own from OpenAI or Cerebras, or Pro. Only text is translated, never your recording, and without a model you simply get your words as you said them.
And you can speak any of the 99 that Whisper understands.
English is the default target. Change it under Translation in Settings. How the spoken language is detected: 99 languages.
Translation needs a language model. Three ways to get one, one of them free and offline.

Eleven: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, plus a Gen Z style that rewrites your words as slang. You pick one under Translation in Settings; English is the default.
No. It listens until you tap Right ⌥ again, turns your speech into text, then translates the whole thing and pastes it. Translating a finished sentence keeps the grammar and word order right.
Yes. Select it and hold Right ⌥ for a second and a half. MetaWhisp copies the selection, translates it and pastes the translation over it. This uses the macOS Accessibility permission, like auto-paste.
Not if you use the free local model. Turn on Use local model for AI features under AI Engine in Settings and translation runs on your Mac. With your own OpenAI or Cerebras key, or with Pro, the text goes to that service.
No. Your voice becomes text first, on your Mac on the Free plan. Only that text is translated: on your Mac with the local model, or by the service you chose. Audio never goes to the translator.
You still get your words, just untranslated: MetaWhisp pastes what you said in the language you said it. Set up the local model, add a key or use Pro, and the next dictation comes out translated.
Free for Mac. The local model keeps translation on your Mac.
