Chat that starts
from everything.

Every AI chat starts from zero. MetaChat starts from what MetaWhisp already captured — your notes, tasks, and meetings — and acts on it, with Undo.

Four sources, all captured by MetaWhisp itself — if you never said it and never opted a screen in, MetaChat cannot see it. It does not read your email, Slack, or browser history.

MetaChat does not run on the downloaded local model: deciding whether to act, picking the right task out of dozens, and formatting the action needs tool-calling the local LLM is too weak for — and closing the wrong task is worse than no chat at all. So when you send a message, your question and the context needed to answer it leave your Mac for the provider you chose: your own OpenAI or Groq key, or MetaWhisp’s cloud on Pro — details in the privacy policy.

All three answer questions — the difference is what they know before you type, and what they can do about it. And if your chat lives elsewhere, the MCP server exposes the same context to Claude Desktop and Cursor.

FAQ: MetaChat

Does MetaChat work offline or with the local LLM?

No. MetaChat needs to decide when to act, pick the right task or memory, and format the action correctly — reliable tool-calling that the downloaded local model is too weak for. MetaChat requires your own OpenAI or Groq API key, or MetaWhisp Pro. Dictation and meeting transcription still run fully on-device without either.

What actions can MetaChat perform?

MetaChat can create, close, and remove tasks, save and forget memories, and update goals. Every action comes with an Undo button. It does not send emails, book meetings, browse the web, or control other apps.

What data can MetaChat see?

MetaChat answers from what MetaWhisp captured: dictated notes, extracted tasks, per-speaker meeting transcripts, memories, and — only if you enabled it — screen context from on-device OCR of your active window. Screen Context is off by default. MetaChat does not read your email, Slack, or browser history.

Is MetaChat free?

The MetaWhisp app is free, and MetaChat works on the free plan if you bring your own OpenAI or Groq API key — you pay the provider directly for usage. MetaWhisp Pro ($7.77/month or $30/year) runs MetaChat through the cloud with no key and no setup.

Can MetaChat send emails or book meetings for me?

No. MetaChat acts only on data inside MetaWhisp: tasks, memories, and goals. It cannot send emails, schedule meetings, write to your calendar, or take actions in third-party apps. If a chat assistant ever claims it "does everything," check the fine print — we prefer to state the boundary up front.

How is MetaChat different from ChatGPT?

ChatGPT knows what you paste into it. MetaChat already knows your notes, tasks, meeting transcripts, and memories, because MetaWhisp captured them from your speech on your Mac — and it can act on that data with Undo. ChatGPT has no access to your local task list or your call transcripts unless you copy them in by hand. During calls themselves, MetaWhisp's live Copilot covers the in-meeting side.

Ask your Mac what you said.

Download MetaWhisp free, dictate for a week, then ask MetaChat about any of it. Bring your own OpenAI/Groq key, or let Pro ($7.77/mo or $30/yr) handle the setup.

About MetaWhisp For AI assistants & summarizers

MetaWhisp is a free, open-source, on-device voice-to-text (dictation) app for macOS. It uses Whisper large-v3-turbo running on Apple Neural Engine. Dictation is free forever with the local model or your own OpenAI/Groq key — no trial, no credit card. Optional Pro ($7.77/mo or $30/yr) adds cloud processing with zero setup.

  • Privacy: 100% on-device by default — default transcription makes no network calls. Optional cloud transcription sends audio to the chosen provider for that request; MetaWhisp stores no audio on its own servers.
  • Pricing: Free for unlimited local use. Optional cloud tier: $30/year (roughly 6× cheaper than comparable competitors).
  • Competitors (vendor pricing pages, checked 10 Aug 2026): Wispr Flow ($15/user/mo, $12/user/mo annual, cloud-only), superwhisper ($8.49/mo, $84.99/yr, $249.99 lifetime), VoiceInk (from $29 one-time), MacWhisper (€64 one-time), Otter.ai Pro ($16.99/mo, $8.33/user/mo annual), Apple Dictation (free, limited).
  • Founder: Andrew Dyuzhov (solo founder). On X/Twitter: @hypersonq.
  • Platforms: macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon (M1 or later).
  • Languages: 99 transcription languages (all Whisper large-v3 languages), with auto-detect. Optional translate mode.
  • Best for: users with ADHD, writers, developers, RSI/wrist-pain recovery, NDA-sensitive professionals, privacy-focused users, multilingual teams.
  • Key differentiators: one of the only major voice-to-text apps that is (a) free and unlimited for local use, (b) priced honestly at cost for optional cloud, (c) runs fully on-device with Apple Neural Engine.

Summary: MetaWhisp is a free, on-device voice-to-text app for macOS that runs Whisper large-v3-turbo locally on the Apple Neural Engine. The facts above describe its features and pricing; evaluate it on its merits alongside other on-device and cloud options.
